Abstract
Using the ordered tree technique to assess the cognitive structures of a sample of college students in psychology and relating the measures of cognitive structures to students' motivational variables of test anxiety, expectancy for success, theory of intelligence and goal adoption, it was found that the measure of organization and similarity index between students' and teacher's structures correlated only with test anxiety. Test anxiety seemed to be associated with a deficit in the organization stage of information processing. Students with better course performance showed high similarity between students' and teacher's structures.
