Abstract

This Paper has attempted to examine both specific social and personality factors as they may relate to the development of delinquency. Confucian socialization model and Hirschi's Attachment Control Model are subject to test by comparing the effects of personality traits and familial socialization among normal (n=1910)and delinquent adolescents(791). The results of this study support the contention that, though parental affection seemed to have little association with delinquency, there was some strong and consistant datachment from family among delinquents with some indication that delinquent has typically failed to effectively internalized responsibility. The meaning of attachment in Confucian societies, such as Taiwan, is re-examed as contrasted to that of individualism societies.
