Abstract

This study explores the relationship between four environmental veriables: era, life, freedom, and value; and the growth of Chinese philosophical genius. Geniuses were selected from history books and were rated in terms of their creativity, influence, versatility, and skill. They were then ranked into three categories: first-, second-, and third-rated. First-rated geniuses were used to delineate the growth and decline periods in Chinese history. They were also compared to third-rated geniuses on the four environmental variables of interset. Results indicated that first-tared geniuses had above average ratings on each environmental variable lending further support to researches dealing with the role of safe environment, freedom, and cultural value in fostering creativity.
